Ode to Shopping Malls (Poem)

The family owned boutiques,
With punch in stamp cards,
For every swipe of a purchase,
Are all disappearing.
The unlimited food court,
Not only serving every fast food franchise,
But also vast options from every country,
Are all disappearing.
The Auntie Anne’s and Mrs. Fields,
Cutting down their free samples,
As the foot traffic cuts down too,
Are all disappearing.
The Payless holiday sale’s of 20% off
Now is a 2019 liquidation sale
Trending after the Kmarts and Sears
Are all disappearing.
The photos with Santa Claus and with his elves
And the fake ice skating rink
Are competing with “mommy's ipad”
Are all disappearing.
The explosion of online shopping
With free shipping for “$50 or more”
Surpassing the spark of shopping malls
Are all overthrowing.
