Unwrapping the Horror of the Holidays (Poem)

You wreck the halls with your malicious spite,

A Christmas sorrow to end this gloomy night.

Nitting and picking at all my imperfections,

Unwrapping my flaws with insincere affections.

I swarm you with gifts of obedience and respect,

And in all receiving the degradement of a defect.

Expectations unrealistic and standards too high,

My shortcoming and failures preyed on by your eye.

Stealing the holiday joy and the essence of delight,

A Grinch in my household storming such a fright.

Wicked intentions stir into your mind,

To rid me away til I'm gone far behind.
